This map of New France was created in 1660 and published in De Creux's 1664 Historia Canadensis. It reflects a fairly accurate understanding of Indian ethnicity but uses terms (in Latin) given the various groups that are holdovers from the era of early French exploration: Souriquois for Micmacs, Etchemenii (Etchemin) for those east of the Penobscot. Du Creux also knew about the Soquoquioii (Sokokis/Sokwakis) on the Connecticut River. However, his knowledge of the New England coast was limited, as can be seen ins his glossing Boston as Bristonium.
